Designing classroom experiments
As Director of the Tasmanian Science Talent Search (2018-2020), the best science produced by Tasmanian students crossed my desk. Work samples came from Prep to Year 12; some went on to the BHP Science Awards and International Science Fair. Through this program, teachers develop a systematic approach to deliver high quality, project-based science investigations.

Building class 'learning props'
Many activities designed for programs like the recent Launceston Time Travel Challenge involve the construction of ‘learning props’. They can be original inventions, reproductions of famous objects, ridiculously over-sized items or bespoke scientific equipment. Whatever their differences, their common goal is to stimulate the thinking of curious and creative minds.

Hands on activities - Primary
Customised workshops designed for teachers to observe and then practise various activities, experiments and demonstrations to improve their repertoire & confidence. Optimise precious PL time by selecting topics that suit your needs. eg. School A might focus on Chemical Sciences Prep-6; School B might prefer support for all Content Strands for their Year 3 & 4 team.

Hands on activities - Secondary
Like the Primary edition, these are customised workshops designed for teachers to observe and practise activities, experiments & demon-strations that directly reflect their personal PL goals or school-wide priorities. Especially useful in settings where teachers are working ‘out of area’ and those schools with smaller science departments or solitary science teachers.

VHF Marine Radio Licence (SROCP)
This is an important qualification for anyone who is working with students in a marine setting. The correct communication equipment is one step that helps keep you, and your students, safe. An MROCP lets you take full advantage of GPS-EPIRBs and DSC-VHF radios. Marine & Safety Tasmania’s adoption of EVDS from 1 July 2023 make it the time to act!

After-school STEM Clubs
Many Tasmanian schools run after-hours STEM Clubs, but it can be daunting to develop one from scratch. Doug Grubert Education can help your school (or school cluster) develop a vibrant learning community centred around highly engaging, hands-on STEM activities. In his time running STEM Clubs, Doug has worked with students from over 30 Tasmanian schools.
